Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service

Reminder that the Thanksgiving Service is Tuesday, November 21st at 7:00pm at the Methodist Church.

Hanging of the Greens

Hanging of the greens will be Thursday November 30th at 4:30pm. A potluck dinner will follow, so we ask everyone who will be joining us either for the decorating/dinner or just for the dinner to bring a dish to share. Please let Barb Sperry know if you will be at the dinner so she can plan accordingly, and let Peg know if you will help with the decorating. This is a time for fellowship and to begin celebration and joy of the Christmas season. We hope many of you will join us.

Halloween party

There is a Halloween party on Saturday, October 28th from 1-3pm. There will be cider, pizza, and treats for anyone 16 years old and younger to come and have a fun time. Make sure you wear your costumes!! Anyone with questions can contact Karen Marion.

End of Life planning workshop

Becca is doing a workshop on planning for end of life. Topics to be discussed include planning the funeral service, cremation vs. burial, preplanning and prepaying with the funeral home, why making advance arrangements is important, talking about these plans with loved ones, and end of life decisions such as living wills, advance directives, palliative care, and hospice. This workshop is planned for October 15th. This workshop is open for everyone, even if you don’t plan on dying any time soon! The best planning is done when we’re not in a crisis situation. Worksheets for funeral wishes are available from Becca whether you attend the workshop or not. Please consider filling one out and filing with the church office.

Octoberfest is on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2017, from 10am to 1pm, at the Red Barn in Northville. As usual, there will be baskets to bid on, and chili, soup, and baked goods. This is one of the big fundraisers of the year for our church, so please encourage your friends and neighbors to attend. Anyone able to cook or help that day should contact Pam Hanke, anyone making a basket or having a question about the baskets should contact Jane Swanson, and anyone able to help with setup or tear-down should contact Cliff Wray. As always, we are gratefull to Donna Breda and Sue Sedon for the use of the Yellow Barn and the surrounding meadow.

Basket Bonanza

The Basket Bonanza part is being chaired again this year by Jane Swanson, and it’s time to start planning a theme and gathering items for a basket. If you need help with a theme, need a basket, would rather donate some items toward a basket, or money to help finish off a basket, just call Jane. She is ready to help. Great ideas from past years might be a child’s basket, children’s books, sundae basket, cleaner’s basket, wine basket, cat or dog basket, canned goods & jelly, guest room, Italian theme, sports basket, DVD movie night, or pies.

Service Auction

It is that time of year again as we approach our most fun fundraiser – The Service Auction. Jill Russom has volunteered to organize the event this year, and it will be held on July 16th following worship at the Batchellerville Church. Start thinking about planning a party or making a theme basket, a meal to share, homemade something to offer, or any other item or service. Cards are available from Jill and should be returned ASAP, so we can start thinking about what to bid on!
